One of the key function of the HR Division is building the capacity of public employees.  In addition, the Division ensures that both public employees and high school leavers have access to gain skills in the workforce through training and study opportunities.

Below are some of the Study Opportunities available to Public Service, and will be updated from time to time:

Employee of the Year Award

The Employee of the Year Award, is an award presented annually at the celebration of the Public Service Day in Nauru.  This event is usually held in September or October each year.

Each Department can make their nominations for their employee that they may perceive to deserve the Employee of the Year Award.  A selected panel of judges, will deliberate and view the nominations and justifications against set criterias.  All nominations must be endorsed by the Head of Department.

The Employee of the Year Award, receives cash prize as well as a scholarship to pursue further studies either abroad or at a local Institute such as USP pending on eligibility of entry.

The Award had been in existence for approximately 10 years, and had seen successful candidates receiving and returning to the workforce with Degrees and other qualifications.

The current Employee of the Year Award is Ms. Gaelyne Dake from the Media Department.

Capacity Building through USP

HR Division also extends opportunities for public employees to pursue locally available courses including but not limited to those offered at the USP Nauru campus.

In collaboration with Departments, HR Division is able to provide support financially to ensure that public employees who wish to upskills their knowledge are able to do so.  This process is usually through the Department identifying key skills gaps, and identified how their employees will be able to bridge those gaps through pursuing these study opportunities.

This opportunity is accessible to all public employees but must be in collaboration with the needs of each Department.  All request for assistance on these locally available study opportunities must be first endorsed by the respective Head of Department.
